Case Study – Pop Fiction Games
The Challenge
Our first project with Pop Fiction Games was to create a series of "how to play" videos for their board game, The Shivers. The goal was to provide easy-to-follow tutorials that would support the game's release by simplifying the learning curve and enhancing the user experience.
After the success of The Shivers, Pop Fiction Games aimed to launch a Kickstarter campaign for a new expansion pack featuring three new expansions, which included additional pop-up rooms, twelve episodes by acclaimed guest writers, and new puzzles and monsters. Our task was to produce a compelling Kickstarter campaign video that effectively showcased these new features and generated excitement among potential backers.
Our Approach
Our team worked closely with the Pop Fiction Games team to refine the campaign's copy, ensuring it captured the essence of The Shivers’ magical and mysterious world.
To highlight the intricate and vibrant pop-up game pieces, we filmed them against a black background. This approach made the pieces stand out, emphasizing the game’s unique and captivating design. This footage was then blended with custom motion graphics to really show off the games design.
The Results
The how-to videos helped streamline the onboarding process for new players, receiving positive feedback for their simplicity and clarity, which enhanced the overall experience for new comers to table top games.
The Kickstarter campaign was a resounding success, raising $212,000 against an initial goal of just $35,000. We're confident the campaign video played a significant role in this achievement, effectively communicating the excitement and value of the new expansion pack.
